Being sick is really not fun at all. I was down with fever since last friday. My mummy contracted a sore throat much earlier, thank to the durian, and shared that with me.
This is the very first time I had a hi fever since I was born although I did had some mild ones with compliments from the vaccination jabs.
It lasted for 3-4 days and really wore me out. My parents brought me to see a doc @ LWEH but they weren’t too happy with the doc. I don’t quite like her and her nurses neither. This was the worst experience we have and would be the last time we see her I believe.
Anyway, more about my fever, I had the temperature slightly after midnight on friday. It started with a mild one around 37.5 on mummy’s mini thermometer and quick enough before my parents acted on it, it went up to 38.7. with that, they applied cold compress (with ice-pack) on my forehead. They were a bit too worry as this was the first time I caught a fever, especially my mummy. Nevertheless, my daddy managed to stay cool and said a prayer for me while mummy was alternating the cold compress on my forehead & my back. After a while, the temperature was stabilized around 37.6. I felt very uncomfortable and wanted to latch-on all the time. My mummy let me do that and it really comforted me. I fell asleep at 3a.m but my body was still very warm and mummy continued the cold compress.I didn’t really sleep well and got up at 8a.m. Mummy got me ready and rushed to the hospital as the doc’s clinic open at 9a.m. Daddy cancelled his meeting and was coming with us because mummy was literally ‘speechless’ (she lost her voice due to throat inflammatory).
It was slightly before 9a.m. when we arrived. The doc was in her clinic as we made our appearance at the clinic. The nurse asked for my appointment card and tried to register me. After a short while, we saw the doc walking out and she told my mummy that she is going for her routine ward round. Mummy asked if she could see us before she went away but she refused to do that with the reason my record file was not there yet. She didn’t seem to bother asking why we were there to see her and how bad my condition is. Anyway, we couldn’t do much but to let her go and hoped that she would be back soon. It’s really frustrating that we had to wait for 2.5hrs before we can see her just because of my patient record file missed her by a few minutes. She obviously knew how long we have to wait with her ward round and couldn’t care less if my condition permitted that. Logically, we doubt her professionalism as a paed. Anyway, we proceeded to see her since we have waited for so long but decided not to go back to her any longer.
It’s finally my turn and we went into her clinic. She has 3 nurses helping her when she tried to examine me. I was so cranky that I cried out loud. She gave us an impression of impatient and got irritated by me. She took that out on her nurses and ask them to hold me tightly. At last, she diagnosed that I had sore throat with just a quick look on my throat. Oh well, that is not too hard to tell, because my mum had one too. She then prescribed the paracetamol and antibiotic which my parents are much reluctant to feed me on. We perceived that she did that just to keep us off her peaceful weekends because it’s on friday then. However, we did come home with the antibiotic as a backup though.
As soon as we came home, without taking any medicine, my fever is gone and the temperature maintained around 37 the whole day & night. It went up a bit to 37.5 when I was sleeping and mummy applied cold compress on my forehead, but I’m glad that it’s subsided totally the next morning onwards.
This is how we manage the fever totally drug-free but prayerfully!
